Trains are running from Montpelier to Barre, which is great news for those living in Central Vermont who were immediately affected by hurricane Irene.  Transportation is an incredibly important factor in daily life, a factor which when hindered by a natural disaster can seem monumental.  The railways throughout Vermont were impacted by the wrath of Irene but were immediately attended to.  Most services have either resumed or are being attended to by bus systems.

Those living in Central Vermont can rest easy knowing a major route, that between Montpelier and Barre, is operational, connecting Central Vermonters with Burlington for those needing to get to work or play.  This is especially positive being that some lines in Vermont are still being worked on.  The NECR (New England Central Rail) has worked tirelessly to resume service to Central Vermont.

Central Vermont communities and organizations have come together in the wake of Irene, getting services back on track and life as close to normal as possible.  The attention to the railways was quick and much appreciated by all.  Click here to visit the website for the NECR and get up to date information on routes you are most interested in.

A Central Vermont REALTOR® is here to help those in need, stepping up to rally for those affected by Irene.  Marcia Biondolillo owns BCK Real Estate with her husband John Biondolillo, and lives and works in Central Vermont.  BCK Real Estate has an office in Rochester Vermont, a Vermont town that was particularly ravaged by flooding caused by Hurricane Irene.  Marcia didn’t just sit there and think about what has happened to the people affected by flooding, she did something for the people in Rochester Vermont.

Through an extensive network that includes other real estate professionals, friends, clients, and more, Marcia Biondolillo was able to reach out and gather aid for people and families in Rochester Vermont that included food, clothes, and other necessities, using its Barre office as a drop-off point.  From here the supplies have been transported to Rochester in moving vans.  It is amazing to live in a community that comes together to help those in need, and to be a part of something so human.

Marcia Biondolillo’s dedication to the communities of Central Vermont and her ability to follow through, as opposed to sitting idly by, is a representation of how good can come from bad situations.  Contact us at BCK Real Estate to learn more about how you can help those who have been affected by Irene.  We can also help you get to know the different areas that make up Central Vermont and help you understand how living in our unique area can help you feel like you are part of something larger.

Central Vermont Communities Survive Flooding, Move Forward

Central VermontCentral Vermont communities survived the flooding caused by Irene and are moving forward, focusing on community and keeping small businesses open. While Vermont made headlines focusing on the path of destruction that the hurricane caused, it is important to remember that much of the state survived unscathed. In typical Vermont fashion, those who were left untouched are pulling together for those that need help.

The Vermont Irene Flood Relief Fund has been established to help small businesses that were affected by flood and storm damage get back on their feet, recognizing that small business is what holds the state’s economy together. Central Vermont communities are raising money for this fund, helping the businesses that need it most.

In Waterbury Vermont local school children are adding to relief efforts. Last week students from the Thatcher Brook Primary School in Waterbury packed lunches for those in need throughout the area, demonstrating the sense of caring and community that pervades through all ages in Central Vermont. Those who have not been impacted have stepped up to help those who have been.

Barre VT Center of Help For Vermonters

Barre Vermont

Barre VT was recently a center of help for Vermonters for cleaning up flood damage. Storms come and go so quickly and cleaning up the aftermath is the hardest part, but a national organic cleaning company, Seventh Generation, stepped up to help out many who are struggling to move forward.

At the Vermont Foodbank headquarters in Barre, many people who work for Seventh Generation came and assembled cleaning kits to be distributed throughout the state to help people put their homes back together. Many people were blindsided by the hurricane which was expected to hit the hardest on the coast, the immense flooding that came through Vermont was unexpected and devastating but has brought out the unique spirit that pervades the state.

Seventh Generation is a Vermont-based company that rallied to help people that needed help, and Barre Vermont is the location where everyone converged to show spirit. Central Vermont is a wonderful place to live, an area where being neighborly is pervasive and helping each other out is a way of life.
