Killington Real Estate: Summer Activities for Kids

Killington real estate benefits tremendously from the numerous summer activities available for kids. The mountains in Vermont lend themselves well to summer adventure and here in the Killington area we are lucky enough to have a Parks and recreation department that is dedicated to providing a little something for all interests.

Registration is open for summer camps in Killington and here are some of the offerings:

D&J Music Camp – open to students in grade kindergarten through 6 and spanning all ability levels this camp offers junior musicians the opportunity to try out a variety of musical instruments and acquire basic theoretical knowledge of music, including songwriting. The D&J Music Camp will take place on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 12-noon, July 16 – August 13 at the Johnson Recreation Center. Cost: $65, plus an optional $5 materials fee (families may choose to bring items to waive the $5 materials fee.)
Superhero Camp – for ages 4 to 7. Games, games, arts and crafts projects, and lessons in trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship will help make well-rounded superheroes this summer. The kids will learn to sling webs like Spiderman, create masks and shields for their costumes, and learn how to jump tall buildings among other skills. Superhero Camp takes place August 5-8 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the Johnson Recreation Center. Camp is available for 3, 4, or 5 days, and the fee is $100, $120, and $140 respectively.
All About Learning Camp – for grades 1 through 8, will allow kids to utilize science, technology, engineering, and mathematics concepts and 21st Century educational skills of critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration, agility and adaptability, curiosity and imagination. Killington will offer two such camps – Junior Engineering 1 (for grades 1-3) and Collision Cars (grade 4-8). The fee for both courses is $120 for residents and $125 for non-residents.
Kids Boot Camp – for kids 7 and older. This fun camp will focus on teamwork, endurance, strength, speed and agility drills. The one-hour class includes a warm up, cool down and stretching. This camp takes place on Wednesdays from 10-11 a.m., July 9 – Aug. 14 at the Johnson Recreation Center. The fee for the six sessions is $40 or there will be a drop-in fee of $8.

The town government recently expanded the number of members on the Economic Development and Tourism Commission from four to five. The commission reports to the Select Board, which relies heavily on the group for marketing strategies for Killington and the surrounding area.
