Northfield Vermont  is a community of 5791 people (2000 Census) located in the heart of Vermont’s Green Mountains. Home to Norwich University, the oldest private military college in the United States, Northfield is an easy ten-mile drive from Montpelier, the state’s capital, and three hours from either Boston or Montreal. As such, Northfield offers easy access to both idyllic rural and culturally diverse, cosmopolitan settings. Within its own borders, Northfield provides over eighty miles of roads in all directions, connecting it to surrounding communities and creating the opportunity for year-round scenic driving.

The Northfield Municipality comprises the 38.3 square miles of Northfield Town (chartered in 1781), which includes the 1.8 square miles of Northfield Village (incorporated in 1855).  Northfield Village is the commercial, industrial, and residential center of Northfield.  Northfield Village has its own electric, water, and sewer departments (which also provide service to some contiguous areas outside the Village).  At right is the Village Common, which is Northfield’s “downtown” and home to banks, stores, restaurants, and other services.  This photo shows the Northfield Farmers Market, which takes place each Tuesday afternoon from mid-May through mid-October

Norwich Hockey Advances after win in Northfield VT by John Biondolillo

The Norwich Cadets defeated the University of New England 8 -1 last night at Norwich University in Northfield.  After a sluggish start, the Cadets roared back and turned it into a rout.  Norwich advances to the ECAC semi-finals next Friday.  That game will also be played in Northfield at Kreitzberg Arena.

Time Running Out For First Time Buyers

The clock is winding down on the $8,000 Federal Tax credit for first time Vermont home buyers.  This free cash incentive is available for first time buyers who purchase by November 30th.  You must actually close by that date to qualify.
