Montpelier VT real estate report: don’t miss the First Friday Art Walk this week. The Vermont History Museum will be participating in this week’s Montpelier First Friday Art Walk opening its doors and enabling participants the chance to view the award-winning exhibit “Freedom and Unity” for free. “Freedom and Unity” offers a unique and fascinating look at Vermont’s history and Friday offers a great opportunity to get a glimpse of this unique exhibit.

The Montpelier Art Walk will take place this Friday, April 5th, from 4 to 8 pm. Galleries participating this week include the Kellogg-Hubbard Library with a mixed media exhibit titled “Animals are Figures, Too”; The Skinny Pancake, offering a glimpse at the abstract monotypes of Jennifer Skinder; and the drawing Board displaying New Works of Janet Wormser in addition to the Vermont History Museum and many other participants. Poetry Competition in Barre VT Huge Success

A recent poetry competition held in Barre VT was a huge success. Held at the Barre Opera House last Wednesday, March 13th, high school students from all over Vermont took part in the “Poetry Out Loud” contest. The winner won $200 and an all-expense paid trip to Washington to represent Vermont at the national finals.

This year was the 8th year for the “Poetry Out Loud” contest which continues to grow in popularity. Created from a collaborative effort by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation, the idea behind the contest is to emphasize poetry as an oral art. Here in Central Vermont and across the state the competition has created an interest in classic poetry and inspired the often lost art of recitation.

Students in Barre last Wednesday represented 38 high schools in Vermont, with the winner coming from St. Johnsbury Academy. The event was well attended and inspiring. This is a wonderful example of how Vermont High Schools nurture both creativity and a passion for the classics.
